It is believed that there are no fatalities involved - apparently, an oversized/height truck southbound hit/clipped the bridge structure, escorted by a pickup truck, triggering the collapse - both north & south bound lanes in the water. Bridge was built in 1955 and itself has a less than satisfactory rating from transport engineers. Details as to what/how & why it failed are all preliminary & subject to change, of course. Rescuers and divers on scene, with 3 drivers taken to area hospitals when vehicles fell into the river.

Detours will cause major backup in both directions this holiday weekend - good grief, and whatever time needed to rebuilt so that it can reopen. It's about 1 hour north of Seattle going to/from the Canadian border (Vancouver, BC) What a mess!
