I didn't get a response so I found out once there: no more check-in on 44th.
However, at all times I passed by the desk downstairs (especially the separate one for SPG Gold and Plats) was adequately staffed and there was hardly any wait. ^ They did screw up my keys two times though (first time key would't open my door, and reissued key wouldn't work at the lounge), so training may be an issue.
The lounge is definitely a pale shade of its former self and much smaller; breakfast now closes at 9:30 (6:30 am for those still on Pacific time) instead of 11, and at 19:25 (5 minutes prior to closing) ALL hors d'oeuvres were gone. I was given no information about lounge (its existence or its hours) at check-in.
