I'm serious, and I have screen shots to document it.
On May 17, 2013, 8:17 AM (Eastern), I got a DING! notification on the DING! icon. I pressed the icon and and got the Live Update featured message: "Morning Specials, See What We’re Cooking up! Click here to purchase by 2:45 PD CDT, May 17, 2013."
I clicked on the featured message and got the offers. I highlighted and clicked on the first offer: Baltimore/Washington to Norfolk starting at $75 One-Way!
-Fare is valid for travel Monday-Saturday, July 9 through July 31 only.
I reached the page to book trip type number of passengers, and date. I selected round-trip; 1 passenger; depart date July 9, 2013, anytime; return date July 11, 2013, any time. Then I pressed Book Now.
I got to the page to select flights.
For all 5 flights, the DING! fare was $75, were more expensive than Wanna Get Away Web Only Fares, $64.
So I contacted Southwest customer relations about this. First, I asked if DING! fares are supposed to be the lowest fares. The representative said yes. Then I explained the situation in which the wanna get away fare was less expensive than the DING! fare. She had no explanation. I asked here which fare she would choose. She replied that in this situation she would choose the less-expensive wanna-get away fare.
A much better answer would have been, "I don't know why, but could we work together on this?"
To me, Southwest's providing DING! fares more expensive than wanna get fares confirms that something is wrong with the prevous issue that I mentioned, that DING! fares are not available shortly after being announced.
If I get around to it, I'll send an email to
[email protected] (Southwest Customer Relations Rapid Rewards), attention to Jim Ruppel, Vice President of Customer Relations with an attachment that has the screenshots. Alternatively, I can send the email from Southwest's site.
