Its a question I may never find an acceptable answer to. Ive heard a lot of excuses and lame justification over the years for acting like an idiot or being rude while traveling before but they are all that, just excuses. Part of the reason airline staff is so short or mean with people at airports is because all day they deal with clowns
ANC, I say this gently and with all due respect, please do not equate this type of rude or senseless behavior with mental retardation.

Part of my work is devoted to working with individuals who have intellectual challenges or who are developmentally disabled (the current politically correct terms). Some of them travel to visit family or go on a vacation, usually with an attendant or companion unless their condition is relatively mild.

Never, ever would one of my clients pull a stunt like this. They KNOW better and put a great deal of effort into trying their very best to fit in with the rest of the population to the best of their abilities.

In fact, I can imagine that if one of my clients saw something like this, they'd be tugging on the FA's sleeve saying, "See that man? See him? He shouldn't DO that. That's bad. He's being BAD!"
