Assuming that AA tells you that you have a confirmed booking, which you should be able to further verify on the website if you know the record locator, you almost certainly have bought a consolidator ticket.
Consolidators get an allocation of tickets in bulk at discounted prices, directly from the airline. Few ticket agents working for the airline will admit that consolidator fares exist, but they do to many international locations, especially Asian locations. In some Asian markets, the majority of tickets sold are consolidator tickets.
Consolidator tickets also often have more liberal fare rules than published fares. Whether they earn frequent flyer miles or are upgradeable depends on the particular agreement between the consolidator and the airline, and if this is important to you, you need to query it before buying the ticket.
