Too bad it's on one ticket, otherwise you would have saved most of the high British airline passenger tax. London-Amsterdam fares and vice versa are cheap, certainly way less than the tax charged in premium economy class and above. You could have still checked bags through.
Although 2 hours is not much of a connection for separate tickets.
Unless, you are flying the second one with an airline like American Airlines (obviously not AMS-HKG) with an official policy that they will look after miss-connects on separate tickets. Most airlines, you are on your own.
