I had a reward reservation for early June at a Ritz Carlton in Rose Hall, Jamaica. I was just contacted to let me know that the hotel has been sold and thus my reservation has been cancelled. They have held rooms at other hotels in the area for me and given me rates at those hotels. The points from the rewards stay are being credited back to my account and they are offering $500 to compensate.

I am now in a situation where I budgeted for a vacation based on being able to have a free hotel from points. All other hotels are around 2k for the same time period. By being offered only $500, I now have to come up with the remainder on very short notice. The other option is cancelling or changing my trip, but the flight changes will eat through the money they are offering. Getting my points back is great for the future, but does not help me now.

I asked for more from the hotel since they are the ones who put me in this situation and have received little from them. Has anyone experienced anything like this before and what could I expect to get for compensation?
