Having recently cancelled my UK issued AmEx Platinum card which included car hire insurance I started looking for options in Norway. Usually I don't rent cars much but will be in the USA (Hi, CA, OR) for approximately 5 weeks this summer which prompted this investigation.
I have identified the following 3 cards which offer this:
- banknorwegian
Their credit card has an optional car rental insurance for NOK249/year which covers the deductible/egenandel up to NOK20000. Max 2 claims pr year, NOK500 deductible pr claim, only valid for card holder (i.e. no additional drivers). The car rental needs to be paid 100% with the card.
- Handelsbanken
You need to be an account holder in Handelsbanken.
- Remember
NOK90/year for the car rental insurance which covers the deductible/egenandel up to NOK10000.
If I have understood it correctly all these differ from the AmEx Plat terms in that you still need the LDW/kaskoforsikring from the rental agency, and this additional insurance only helps to reduce the deductible.
I opted for the banknorwegian option.
Anyone have any experience with these cards, and the rental car insurance in particular?
