Looks like there was pretty bad weather, even LO was pretty late. The SK MD81 must have gone tech in WAW and flights oversold badly due to the overall delay and cancellation. As per EU261 the airline has to show they did all they could to get you to the final destination. Having a spare MD81 in WAW is nearly impossible for SK, so they can wiggle out of it.

Just file a compaint with the airline and see what they say. Keep us updated! BTW, the stock the ticket is issued on is immaterial when a irreg happens. Pointing you to the TAs was also nonsense as they had cancelled the flight. The TA would have been responsible if you had not checked in and generally not started the ticket.
