A Diamond Force is for paid rooms. And it usually means a paid room at rack rate.
It used to be if you wanted a reward room and no reward rooms were available, the Diamond desk would often contact the hotel to see if they would open up a reward room. Now with no "blackout dates" for reward rooms that is not needed. But if the hotel is sold out, then no rooms are available for rewards.
A Diamond force can be made but at whatever current rate the hotel wants to charge (ie rack rate).
This sounds right. I only did 3 Award Forces and no $ Force in over 20 yrs with HH. And didnt remember the circumstances. Those award forces were very sweet as I ended up getting pts for the stay as if I had paid, when it was HH that paid the hotel.
Since it will be for < 9 hrs I will probably go with a roomsaver coupon and the likes of a Super8, if its cheap enough.Its 1 of those from $59 and UP no way to know what the UP is till you call day of
