Interisland flights are short hops at 30 min +\- so do not let that be an impediment to visiting another Island.
Are you planning on staying at one resort on the Big Island?
For what it is worth - Alaska Airlines runs 737s with domestic first class seats 2x2 and 3x3 in coach compared to Hawaiian's 767 out of Maui domestic style first 2x2x2 and 2x3x2 coach. Delta is in the market as well with some aggressive first class ticket pricing flying domestic configured 757-300's.
