My wife and I will be traveling on a coach award ticket DFW-LHR next week. We are booked in MCE A&B seats with C shown as being filled. As an EXP I always get upgraded and have never used all of my SWU's.

My idea is to offer a SWU at the gate to the person in seat C. Would the gate agent allow me to do this? At this point there are 5 seats in F and 15 seats in J showing as being open so I am hoping there's enough seat availability to do this.

Having an empty seat between us would make this a much easier flight to sleep on and at very least wouldn't have a to space with a stranger. Sure wish it was a 772 and then it wouldn't be an issue.
