As long as the cancellation policy is made clear on the reservation I've got no problem w/ what a hotel's policy is re: cancel. If I don't agree w/ it I'll book elsewhere. If I truly think I can comply w/ it & I want the property, then I'll book it. Shrug.
Debate can still go on whether an award reservation cancel should be in cash or points.
