You are certainly correct that the list exists and can be found, but most people don't think to check it when they make reservations at hotels that don't appear to be resorts. I stayed at the JW Grande Lakes a couple of years ago and was taken completely by surprise when I learned that it's a "resort." If Marriott is going to provide fewer amenities to elite travelers staying at resorts, then at least they could make it easier to discover which hotels fall into that category. Like by putting "resort" in their names!
The refusal to credit Marriott Rewards points on resort fees is absolutely senseless and unjustifiable on any grounds that I can imagine. There is another whole thread on that unpleasant subject.
