Thanks abmj-jr, I think I just needed to get oriented and your reply really helped! I found another hotel which looks to be literally across the road from Tokyo Dome Hotel, called Tokyo Green Hotel. Looks from the availability of these hotels that I might be able to hang in there until the last day before deciding I will need to switch for one night.
Green Hotel Korakuen? Check tripadvisor before you commit. It looks (from the outside) like a rather outdated sort of business hotel. Might be better to take a very short cab ride and spend a night elsewhere.
If you really don't want to stray far, I might suggest the Niwano hotel or the Hotel Metropolitan near Iidabashi. Both should be pretty decent and a little cheaper than Tokyo Dome.
