I would also recommend staying around downtown.

If you stay near the airport, the morning will be wasted, as you won't really have time to go anywhere, and if you were to go back to downtown or Stanley Park, you would spend most of the time on the train.

Gastown is neat, and of course Stanley Park ^

A ride on the ferry to North Vancouver is a very nice trip, and while there you can visit Capilano Bridge.
