Is that right and does it require a call to AA?
Yes, that's right. You should be able to do this on line for your AA profile and the Secure Flight Data of existing reservations (I believe you can edit your middle name field). You can also call AA if you're having trouble with it.

You can try editing it yourself, if that doesn't work, call AA, and if you still have problems, ask the check-in agent at the airport to do it and resubmit the PNR to the TSA to see if you get Pre-Check.

They should but you might politely ask them to do so and then see if you got Pre-Check.

The TSA Pre-Check line screener doesn't care if you have an elite BP or not. The screener should scan your BP which will indicate if you got Pre-Check for that flight.

I have no idea what you mean. I don't know what a "KT#" is, and I don't understand "get GE on a brand-new AA FF#." Global Entry is a CBP trusted Traveler program that you enroll in using the GOES website and are approved into or not by CBP. If you meant to say "Will also be interesting to see if I get Pre-Check on a flight after entering my Global Entry number into the reservation even though I am new to AAdvantage," well, being new to AAdvantage doesn't matter if you are qualifying for Pre-Check based on being enrolled in Global Entry.

In my experience, asking that question generally indicates ignorance of the details of what is involved in whatever it is one is asking that question about. I know I've often wondered "Why can't they just xxx" only to later learn just how difficult xxx is.

Sorry to hear that!

First, we (as humans and also as frequent flyers) in general always want to know. "How are the chances for my upgrade on the flight next week/tomorrow/at this gate?" Second, even though it's never guaranteed, knowing if the TSA granted you Pre-Check (subject to usual random denials) helps, since if you didn't get it, you can stop at the check-in agent and ask him/her to check for any problems and resubmit to the TSA; if you did get it you can skip taking your belt and watch off before arriving at the airport and can be a bit sloppier in where to pack your liquids bag, knowing you likely won't have to dig it out quickly.

Indeed! That airport is always a zoo of kids, strollers, luggage, and shoes all over the place.

Sure wish there was a discernible membership card or something notated on the ticket to avoid these situations.
It's not fair to force people who are eligible for Pre-Check but didn't get it for that flight to go to the back of the other line if the BP doesn't indicate if they got it or not. That's why airports really need a universal system of someone scanning BPs at the entrance to the Pre-Check line.

Depends on the airport, but in my experience usually you go to the head of the elite line.

Having the PreCheck qualification indicated on your boarding pass would take care of this problem.
Yes, having the indicator on the BP will be a nice help for this. But which airports have a checker who doesn't have a scanner? I'm puzzled by this report since I haven't seen it and I'm having trouble figuring out what the basis would be for the checker's decision, since there is no "membership" in Pre-Check and nothing tangible to show a guard.
