If the flight isn't going to be any where near full, I'd rather save some money in the hopes I could get a row to myself. Coming back, my assumption would be things would be back to 'normal' (i.e. the US holiday is over and people are back to their regular business/vacation travel) and the flight would be more full. I don't remember much about my first two flights, but I do remember the last trip: the redeye to London was about 2/3 full and we were completely full coming back. However, if the price isn't going to be much different, I'll spend the money to do business both ways. I've never flown overseas (whether as a civilian or in the military) in any thing other than coach. While this will be a big treat for me if I can swing business round trip, it's also a big expense.
I'm flying out of the vacation capital of the US: Orlando.
As snooty as it may sound, I've found as I've become older, my tolerance for flying in coach has drastically waned. And while you can still have obnoxious adults and children in business and first class, the chances of it happening (in my experience) have been greatly lessened.
I've been wanting to get back to London for years, but things happened and next thing I knew, it's been almost 10 years. I am/have been saving for the trip, but for me, it's still a lot of money so, I'm trying to see where I can save a little without impacting the trip too much. And my massive fear of flying (technically it's a fear of crashing; I actually like being in the plane and looking down at the landscape) doesn't help. I acquired it as an air traffic controller in the Air Force and it's gotten worse over the years. I fly to Vegas once a year. I fly home to visit family once a year. But, I'm on edge from the time we roll for take off until we taxi off the runway.
Thank you, every one, very much for the information so far! :-)
