At some airports, there's a guard at the start of the PreCheck line. And in some locations that guard can't acutally scan your boarding pass, so resorts to assuming you don't qualify unless you convince them, and they may be reluctant to let you into the PreCheck line if you can't convince them that you're PreCheck qualified. Having the PreCheck qualification indicated on your boarding pass would take care of this problem.
