That may be possible too, but you won't get a stop in Hawaii!

Also check here http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/air-c...ineraries.html Lots of good advice can be found there.
I did notice that on the Aeroplan website, when I play around with flight searches, they always route me through Europe, then Bangkok, to Penang. Does anyone know if that's because there is some rule preventing you from flying over the Pacific to get to Asia on a reward seat?

The thing that kills me on the Europe to Bangkok thing, is that with the exception of the one time where I found 4 J seats on Turkish Airlines (from N. Americal to Europe AND Europe to Bangkok), every other time, the best I can find is 4 J seats from N. America to Europe, and then all I see from Europe to Bangkok is economy on Thai Airways. bleh... don't want to spend all those points on a bus. class upgrade only to find myself in economy from Europe to Asia.

And thanks for the link - I'd read that thread before, but I'm sure it couldn't hurt to give it another go... Question: since we'll be gone for more than a year, I don't think I can book a mini RTW though can I?

Ok, so no stopover allowed... that sounds familiar now that you mention it... maybe I read about it and forgot... Thanks for the reminder!

Well how about this...@:-) what if we paid cash for our one-ways to Hawaii? Then will it be possible to get 1-way business class reward seats from Honolulu to Penang, Malaysia?

re: 2 groups of 2 suggestion - IF I took a chance on that, do you guys think it's likely that I'd be able to find a second set of 2 J tickets released on my flights so that we could call Aeroplan and have them upgraded to J? Or is it a case where the airlines flat out won't typically allow 4 J reward seats on a single flight? And if this varies from airline to airline, any theories as to which ones would be the better bet?

Noted... will investigate that option to find out more. Thanks for the suggestion!

And thank-you so much to everyone who has replied so far - keep 'em coming! You guys are wonderful and I really appreciate the help - I'd be lost without it! ^
