Yes, it is possible but (1) you must book directly with BA (online or offline), (2) only 'W' booking class can be upgraded (and I think you can only book 'W' with AA flight number anyway). If you book with BA you can also upgrade 'T' and 'E' booking classes which are much cheaper.
