Out of JFK OP might actually be able to find a last-minute J award seats on AZ. I'd call DL and see. AZ has the best J product for ST through Europe and connecting through FCO wouldn't be all that bad. Continuing on to IST from FCO is a sub-3 hour flight, so not the end of the world if OP got stuck in Y.
