The NYC and London bikes are essentially identical. Same company makes them. Both weigh about 45lbs.

Simply not true. Annual memberships in NYC are significantly cheaper than in London. Daily and weekly memberships are higher than in London, but the annual fee is so much cheaper than the daily fee that, even if you don't use it very often, the annual fee is the better deal.
