The Gleaner has learnt the Park Hyatt will step in the day The Ritz closes its doors next Monday, May 20, after 13 years in Jamaica.

More rooms to come
Playa, a Virginia, United States-based conglomerate, bought the Ritz-Carlton property from the Rollins family and the Urban Development Corpora-tion, sealing a deal that will see the resort transformed into a six-star luxury property. Playa plans to add some 100 suites to the current buildings which already boast 427 rooms.
The group has submitted a plan to the St James Parish Council, which includes a massive refurbishing. Con-struction is set to begin in June. However, the date for completion is not yet confirmed.
However, highly placed sources say the hotel plans to reopen for the 2013-2014 winter tourist season.
