I am not sure why others think driving south to the Everglades consists of anything other than boring I-95. Going south is more crowded and population density increases. What are these people thinking of? And then once in the Nat'l Park there are no speedy scenic drives (just park ranger enforcers). Instead head north as originally planned. US-1 near Jonathan Dickinson State park will fulfill "the need for speed" and goes through diverse eco-systems. Then head over to Indian River Drive from Vero to Fort Pierce for a gorgeous tree canopy two-lane road. Here is the link:
