But, be careful. Not all vehicles are available for one-way rentals and the penalties for forcing a drop off can be astoundingly high, in the $300-500 range.

If there is a chance that you may need to drop off at a distant location (in other words, not downtown instead of airport), make 100% certain at the time you rent that you are getting a car which won't include the prohibitively expensive penalty.

Also, before you drive off, make certain that you understand the features of the new rate you will be charged. Will there be a higher daily rate, a per mile fee, a drop off charge? Will the drop off point have additional tax and concession fees?

As to the driver, make sure he's added properly before he gets behind the wheel.
