All depends on where you're arriving from (from the west or south or north) and which runway you land on. If you land on Runway 4 or get an Expressway Visual to Runway 31, being on the left side would be better (as I have lucked out with). However if you arrive on Runway 13, then the left side would probably be better. Runway 22 can go either way as one of my arrivals we flew parallel to the East River and then past LGA and then way out over Long Island Sound and then finally back into LGA. Having the left side worked out here because we broke out of the cloud layover just over the Verazzano Narrows Bridge before flying up the East River, offering a great view of Manhattan at night.

Another time when landing on 22 we flew more up the Hudson and then made a u-turn back into LGA. Being on the right side worked out in my favor (in this case I got one of the last upgrades and the only seats were on the right side so I didn't even get to pick). Unfortunately it's a lot of luck because you can't always predict the wind patterns so you just have to hope you made the right choice.
