Hello all!
A pretty standard question here, but it's made me think about fare buckets. Can anyone help me and answer both questions?
I'm flying out to MIA tomorrow, and back from GIG next Thursday, both ways in W. I like looking at Flightstats.com, to see how likely it is to get an OpUp on any given sector (last one was out to Berlin on Friday

). The way out to MIA is not looking busy, but it's a day flight, and a mid-J, which is much nicer in W IMHO than on other aircraft because of it's location between J and F. However, I'm optimistic about an OpUp on the way back from GIG, as there are only 5 vacant seats on MMB at the moment, ten days before departure, and several passengers surely won't have been able to choose their seats already.
I want to make sure I've understood flightstats.com properly, however. Here is the data for my flight:
GIG to LHR
(BA) British Airways 248
Departs: 10:50 PM
GIG Galeao Antonio Carlos Jobim International Airport
Arrives: 2:00 PM
LHR London Heathrow Airport
Equip: 777
Available Seats:
First: n/a
Business: 0
Coach: 9 (at least)
Other: 2 (at least)
Fare Classes:
C/0 D/0 R/0 I/0
Y/9 B/9 H/9 K/9 M/9 L/9 V/9 S/0 Q/0 G/0
J/0 W/1 E/1 T/1 N/0 O/2
In short, what
exactly do these mean? I can only find what look like outdated lists. In particular, I'm interested about overselling - when I checked the other day, the last line had no 1s and all 0s (obviously this is the line I care about most). Can one seat ever be in multiple fare buckets? Or does this mean that three people have cancelled their tickets? Perhaps these are all unanswerable questions. But I am fascinated that all the economy buckets are either 0 or 9, and nothing in between. Are the last three classes all redemption classes, as in the first line?
If this has all been asked hundreds of times and I just can't find the thread, then I'm very sorry! And, before you all say this as well, I have noticed that all the business class seats look full at the moment....
Thanks!
