Strange/Odd UA Flight Paths (Due to Weather, etc.)

UA 1171 flying now RSW-EWR look at the flight path. The aircraft flies almost due north, in Ohio I saw it on the CLE Flight Aware map, then heads east to EWR. I know there are some storms on the east coast but most other aircraft flying would fly up the east coast. Also why don't more aircraft fly over the ocean from Florida, is it because of lack of ETOPS.
Flying the route it is on is causing the aircraft to be 45 minuntes late.
