OP was asking about flying from SAN-DFW and the virtues of a 737 vs. an MD80, then someone suggested he fly through LAX to get a 763. Somewhere later in the thread it jumped to the best way from LHR-SAN. These things happen. :-)

The OP might be looking at AA50 / 51, which is not a 763, but rather a 77W. A big difference, and better than the BA 747 even in the SUD.
