My experience is that even at Y99=US$1, there are still only two products that are cheaper in Japan than in the US: inexpensive plastic umbrellas and premisses liability insurance coverage.
Oh, OK, Muji. I am amazed that Muji can get away with charging more outside of Japan than inside.
I bought a pair of ¥100 gloves (both groundskeeper and standard issue) at various convenience stores in Tokyo and Chiba.
Snacks at konbini/some supermarkets in Tokyo on average are cheaper than those in Manhattan/Brooklyn. Another nice thing in Japan is that in stores I
know the prices beforehand. Many bodegas in NYC don't roll that way. The latter might think that the prices could scare people away, but I am constantly buying juice boxes in Japan and at a minimum of ¥100 per pop that'll add up.
