Probably he meant that he is arriving from HKG on a MR. But I'd agree with you that if one is based in SIN, MRs on UA/*G are close to impossible. Just as a fact - any cheapest SIN-US flight I've seen on UA is 30%-40% more expensive than average price of US-SIN flights.

Regarding the terminal, while Changi probably is the best airport in the world unless one is completely exhausted and wants to do nothing except sleep (depends on age too), it would be better to head to the City.


Several hours in Singapore can be used for:

- visit Singapore National Museum and/or Asian Civilizations Museum

- Take a ride on Singapore Flyer (It costs appx SIN $40, be aware, plus most likely you will share the cabin with several dozen of other people)

- Walk around Marina Bay Sands and go swim in Infinite Pool on the top of that (also costs $$ - SIN $80 if I remember correctly)

- Walk around Gardens Bay the Bay across the Marina Bay Sands and visit Flower Dome and Cloud Forest flower conservatories (totally costs SIN $20 for a visit).

- Spend time in Esplanade area exploring 5* hotels - Mandarin Oriental, Pan Pacific, Ritz Carlton

- Walk down on Orchard Street on evening

- Go to Vivocity/Harbourfrount, look at cruise ships, take monorail or walk to Santosa, return back via cable car to the top of Mt. Farber (will cost SIN $40 per ride), walk down to the Harbourfront or explore Telok Blangah Hill park

- Hike! Do treetop walk from Alexandra Rd on Telok Blangah Hill Park or go to McRitchie and hike McRitchie Treetop Trail and Nature Trail.

- Go to Changi Village, walk alongside the beach, take a ride to Pulau Ubin, rent a bike for the whole day (SIN $10 max) explore the island and see how Singapore was looking like in 60ies.

- Trash yourself in one of the hawker centers, however do avoid ones which are in touristy areas (particularly Esplanade, Newton Food Count, Lau Pa Sat Festival Market).
