LOL, or the franchised buns had been sitting at room temperature for too long & going stale. It might've come out better steamed but that's going to be too slow.

How was the "meat"? Here in the U.S. - McD just announced that due to rising beef prices, they will discontinue their Angus beef line of burgers ... after already cutting out Chicken Select. BBQ pork buns will most likely not go well with the consumers abroad either.

Upload that to weibo and wechat and that might get the corporate franchise to pay a bit more attention, that is if they care at all.
