Decent hotels at EWR are few and far between. The best from a cost/benefit basis is the Hilton Newark Airport. They have a comp. shuttle. PM me if you want the e-mail for the hotel manager. They do not currently have a lounge.

The best/closest hotel option is the Marriott. I can't vouch for the property but its more expensive than the Hilton.

I think the Residence Inn (walking distance to Jersey Gardens) is better - they'll drive you also to EWR, from which you can take the monorail to the train.
