I've been trying to upgrade my wife's ticket from Y to J over the last several days and during my many conversations with the call center, I became aware of the following:

1. The Gold reward seats continue to exist in EKs inventory.
2. They are however reserved for tier earning Gold/ Plat members only.
3. Gold nominees of Plat members do not have access to those seats.

I was just a bit disappointed with this because I've been able to get my wife's seat confirmed from Gold Rewards when she did not have any status and I was a Gold. Now I am Platinum and she is gold and they can't/ won't confirm her upgrade, only mine.

Sometimes, I wish EK would put just a little bit more thought into their program - the only time you really really want an upgrade is when you are traveling with family, and it it really frustrating when they just won't confirm an upgrade for your spouse even though the flight is wide open. Kind of spoils the fun of the trip.
