One small note, most species of kangaroo are actually diurnal and commonly seen during the day. For example I was at Margaret River a few months ago (weekend of wine purchasing) and there were dozens of kangaroos on the lawn in front of the house I was renting (there is 5 acre minimum lot size in that area, so lots of roo habitat despite being full of people). Bad luck not to see them in the wild, they are quite entertaining with their antics.
