Reminds me of my neighbour who half rewired his house. He and i were on knob and tube wiring as was the dtandard in 1923. well he just rewired the white wires, and left the blacks alone.

The new white which was on 14/2 started smoking on the first try which was at night in December 1992. Within 5 minutes we had 5 fire trucks at the house.

Myself being single at that time, I had earlier ripped out every wire in the house and started with new 14/2 for both black and white according to code. The lesson proved that a little knowledge is dangerous, as my neighbour was just book read.
