Ditto on St John recommendation. St Thomas is fine, but St. John has its own unique feel that's very appealing. And Trunk Bay is the nicest beach I've ever seen.
I'd put a vote in for the BVI, especially Virgin Gorda and the Baths - or even nicer, the adjacent beach of Spring Bay, which has the same big boulders, soft white sand and crystal blue waters as the Baths, but smaller crowds. There are regular ferries from St. Thomas to both St. John and to Virgin Gorda.
