I have a small sample space of just myself but:

HP: Business model laptop and supposedly better service. Hinges were loose and screen flopped around. Sent in for service and they did not fix hinges, claimed there was water damage and I needed a new motherboard for which they wanted cash to fix.

I declined, told them to send it back to me and returned it to employer. It booted and ran fine and did not need a mobo.

Toshiba: 3Yr extended with Accidental Damage protection. Excellent service. I gave it a Diet Pepsi bath by accident and they had a fedex box delivered the same day, I dropped it off at Fedex and it was back in 2 days fixed and no BS from them.

Sony: 3 Yr extended with accidental damage and onsite repair. I had the outsourced onsite service person come to replace the DVD drive that stopped working. He took the laptop apart (VIAO SZ) and could not put it back together. He sent it to get fixed by Sony in San Diego. It took a week, and they tried to bill me.

The cover always fell off the DVD drive and the hinges were loose so I wanted it fixed before the 3 yr warranty ran out but Sony said it was cosmetic and refused.

None of the repairs was for a completely dead machine and I wiped the drive before sending it in and restored on return .
