Everyone's jumping down the woman's throat but no one really knows the situation. What if she barely knew the person, and just happened to be traveling together? If it was a close friend/colleague or significant other I can understand the disgust.
But what if they were returning from a business trip together as loose colleagues. Maybe she has a small child at home, etc. She might have seen missing the flight as a huge inconvenience for her while offering minimal benefit to the travel companion. Missing a flight to go to a hospital in a random city for someone you barely know doesn't sound appealing to me. And what is to be accomplished of her riding with the person now that they are in capable medical hands.
I'm not saying the above is the case, but not wanting to go to the hospital with the person after medical personnel have already taken over doesn't make her a horrible, pathetic person.
