One thing to be mindful of with in=ear headphones is if you fall asleep on a flight as I did recently, they can become lodged in your ear because of the difference in air pressure. They are then damn difficult to remove. I had to visit a doctor to get it out.
Yawning or chewing gum to open up the eustachian tube (and thereby equalize the pressure) didn't help? Never heard of that, although I can see how it's possible if the seal is really good.
An advantage to foam tips over silicone tips, I suppose, as foam won't create an airtight seal.
