This forum has many threads seeking advice on laptop purchases and even a few on laptop service. I am looking for information on extended service contracts sold by the manufacturer at the time of purchase.

When I bought my Sony two years ago, they sold me an extended warranty with “express service” and “accidental damage” coverage. I have now learned that Sony itself only repairs the machine during its initial one-year warranty. Thereafter, you have to deal with “Lazy Service Contract Company” who seems to have no concept of the term “express.” Better yet, they subcontract your repair so your laptop actually is sent to (brace yourself) Best Buy.

You never know when you’ll need a new computer and service should be a consideration, so which laptop manufacturers offer extended service contracts that provide:

1. The company itself, not an outsider contractor or subcontractors, will do the service;

2. Express service in the form of fast turnaround (let’s say less than one week from when they receive it);

3. Return of your original hard drive if they need to replace it?
