Not in my experience. Hard to have a visa be valid for 90 or 180 days when the period of stay is, say 1-3 years. In fact, I can't think of a
single country that requires the
visa to be valid at the end of stay. For a single entry visa it
can't be valid at the end of the stay, by definition: they're
cancelled at the time of entry.
I think you're confusing "visa" with "Status of Residence/Stay".
