That's just one type of hotel stay. City hotel, in late one night, sleep, shower, check-out. Outside of a Starwood C&P or a Marriott e-certificate, I'm probably not redeeming an award for that kind of stay either.

There are many different types of hotel stays...different purposes, locations, priorities, etc. Having points and status options in a couple different chains gives me some choices I wouldn't otherwise have.
