Another Dane has now reported (elsewhere) that his passport was unreadable in Birmingham a couple of weeks ago (roughly same time as mine), so it could even be a "standards" issue?

Actually, I don't know that my chip was not read, only that I did not get a "green light" from the reading of the chip.
