Now, I remember a few years ago one flight from LHR-DME was published 3hr 55 mins, and one flight at 4 hours 5 mins. I'm glad to report that I passed the IQ test.

Interested to know other stories of legitimate ways of getting flight times and connections to work in your favour, and still fully satisfy company travel policy. Only legitimate stuff that fully satisfies the Company rules please.
Many years ago when living and working in The Netherlands the company contract for flights between AMS and LHR was switched to KLM only. Those of us who were members of the BAEC at the time - switched our flights to LGW with BA. When asked why we simply pointed out that we could travel up to London by train quicker from LGW than from LHR & KLM did not fly to LGW.

Even more years ago when working in Manchester - travel to London was originally always on the Manchester Pullman out of Wilmslow and then on the ICE in F. A new boss arrived (American) and insisted that F was unjustified. We all switched to the Manchester Shuttle to LHR.

We too always travelled in our own time and probably worked for the same company as the OP. Travel in our own time was not required but was expected and indeed essential to get the job done.

These days being retired, I set the travel policy - LH is J and short haul under 3 hours is Y but much of the J is WT+ UUA'd to CW.
