+1. I do SGN>FRA>NYC a lot.

SGN>BKK>PVG/NRT>NYC is also a good option.

UA search engine is very good for booking. These days more opens up closer in so if you're patient you should be able to book what you want.

In the meantime, you might want to book something that is sub-optimal and just pay the change fees when something better opens up.
