Situation averted as I was able to get a ATL-EWR flight back at a minimal price increase, so I just paid the change fee + price difference ($170 or so). Better than burning Avios when I am saving for a Cathay flight.

I am a lowly Silver on DL, so I don't get discounted change fees, it's the full $150
