If she does not have any income herself, a card from your bank would be a good place to start. Banks often issue cards to people in her situation. There was also a recent announcement that dealt with reporting income for "stay at home moms" that might be indirectly applicable in this situation. I believe it would allow your wife to list your income as assisting with repayment. Check on this before doing that, however.

If your wife does have income herself, this becomes a much broader question as to spend habits, what rewards to you want back, what banks weigh income more than credit history, etc.

I would stay away from store & gas cards unless you are really a hardcore shopper at one of these. These cards are a PITA, and not all of them report regularly on your credit history.
Thanks ! she is working a part time job for now until summer hits as she'll be traveling abroad and coming back in August to start working on her teaching certificate ( she's a teacher). so she will continue to work in fall as a part time basis in the mean time.

I actually just opened a chase checking account to build my relationship with them , so i'll add her as a joint account holder with chase and get the freedome as dcpilgrim suggested...i haev the freedome personally and with the 5x handy we actually can do 5x for two and take advantage of that if we can while keeping a zero fee for her..i like that idea actually ..the only thing is i don't have long relationship with chase...is it usually easy to obtain the freedome i would assume?

As far as rewards - i would love for her to sign up for the bigger cards but not sure if creditors are able too ..as i can't even pull a credit score on her yet. i only used credit karma ....so my goal is to build her score slowly . so a freedome i think is a good choice...i am open to other ideas as well..should i get her more than one card if i can? i have a long relationship with bank of america ..so i can get her a card there perhapes? or should i go for somethign smaller outside those banks?.. i think when i first started i had the capital one card as a student .
