The US Grant is on the edge of the gas lamp district while the W is farther but still within walking distance. The two hotels are very different in style. US Grant is an idiosyncratic historic icon with good service but no swimming pool. There's a good restaurant and bar, but nothing like the scene at a typical W. The W is modern trendy cool in style and would appeal to a much younger clientele who would appreciate the bar and pool party atmosphere. Neither is especially child or family friendly, although some might consider the W inappropriate for children due to the sex and alcohol scene.
